What does the AV1 to PNG converter do?

Will my PNG have a transparent background?

AV1 files have no alpha channel, so the result will have a solid background. To get transparency in PNG, use the Remove Background tool on the PNG output.
Is the AV1 to PNG conversion reversible?

You can convert the PNG back to AV1 on this site. If either format involved is lossy, the round-trip is not bit-perfect even though it is visually or audibly close.
Does the PNG output support transparency?

The format does, but the source has no alpha to give it — video frames and rendered pages are fully opaque by nature, so every pixel arrives solid. The alpha channel is still useful afterwards: it means you can cut a subject out of the PNG later without changing format again. PNG is the right choice for screenshots, logos, line art and anything with hard edges or transparency — no ringing, no colour banding.
Is there a file-size limit when converting AV1 to PNG?

Free conversions have a size limit per file, set by the type of file, and the page tells you when a file is over it. A paid plan removes that limit, so much larger files can be converted.
Can I batch-convert several AV1 files to PNG at once?

What happens to my AV1 files after the conversion?

Uploaded files are processed on our own conversion servers, nobody looks at them, and they are not shared. The upload and the converted file are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
