GIF to HEIC Conversion FAQ

What does the GIF to HEIC converter do?
+
It converts a GIF file into HEIC format.
HEIC does not support transparency. Transparent regions in the GIF will be flattened against a solid background — white by default. If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG, WebP, or TIFF instead.
HEIC is a single-frame format. The converter takes the first frame of the animation by default. To export every frame, convert to HEIC after first splitting the GIF with the Split tool.
Default settings target broadcast / web quality — visually identical to the source for most viewers. For archival use, pick the highest quality option in the converter settings.
No — HEIC has no alpha channel, so transparent regions are composited against a background colour, white unless you change it. That is the single most common surprise in this conversion: a logo that looked clean on a dark page arrives with a white box around it. Set the matte colour to match wherever the image will sit, or choose a target that keeps alpha. HEIC is patent-encumbered and still widely refused: browsers do not display it, Windows needs an extra codec, and a great many upload forms reject the extension outright.
Only the first frame survives, because HEIC is a still format with nowhere to store the rest. If the animation matters, target a format that animates, or convert to a video container instead and keep the motion.
No pixel data, no. Both formats store the image without lossy compression, so the picture that comes out is identical to the one that went in and the conversion can be repeated indefinitely. What changes is file size, and which features travel — colour depth, embedded profiles, layers and animation are all supported unevenly between lossless formats. GIF is lossless but capped at a 256-colour palette per frame, using LZW compression and single-colour binary transparency. An HEIC holds HEVC-compressed stills — the same codec family used for video — and can carry several images, a depth map and non-destructive edits in one file.
Anonymous uploads are capped at a generous default; signed-in free accounts get a higher cap, and Pro accounts have no per-file limit. Browser memory is usually the practical constraint long before our server-side limits kick in.
Yes. Drop or pick multiple GIF files in one upload — the converter processes them in parallel and returns a ZIP of the HEIC results. There is no need to repeat the upload step per file.
Uploaded files and HEIC outputs are auto-deleted after a short retention window. We do not inspect, share, or train on user files. Direct download links are time-limited and tied to your session.
HEIC opens in the standard tools for its category. Browsers and built-in OS viewers handle the common cases.
No. The converter runs entirely in your browser plus our cloud — no plugin, no install, no admin rights. It works on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, iOS, and Android.

GIF files cover animation and limited color palettes, perfect for clean animations, memes, and icons.

HEIC

HEIC files provide better compression than JPEG while protecting image sharpness, used by Apple devices.
