FLV to PNG Conversion FAQ
What does the FLV to PNG converter do?
+
It converts a FLV file into PNG format.
Will my PNG have a transparent background?
+
FLV files have no alpha channel, so the result will have a solid background. To get transparency in PNG, use the Remove Background tool on the PNG output.
Is the FLV to PNG conversion reversible?
+
You can convert the PNG back to FLV on this site. If either format involved is lossy, the round-trip is not bit-perfect even though it is visually or audibly close.
Will the PNG be larger than the FLV?
+
Yes — lossless containers store every byte. Expect the PNG to be 3-8x the size of the FLV. The benefit is no further quality loss on editing or re-encoding.
Which frame of the FLV do I actually get as a PNG?
+
The one you point at, not just the first. A timestamp picks a single moment out of the FLV; an interval setting walks the whole video and returns one PNG per step, delivered as a ZIP. The default grabs a frame a few seconds in rather than at 00:00, because the opening frame of a video is very often black. FLV is the Flash Video container that carried essentially all web video from roughly 2003 until Flash was switched off at the end of 2020.
Does the PNG output support transparency?
+
The format does, but the source has no alpha to give it — video frames and rendered pages are fully opaque by nature, so every pixel arrives solid. The alpha channel is still useful afterwards: it means you can cut a subject out of the PNG later without changing format again. PNG is the right choice for screenshots, logos, line art and anything with hard edges or transparency — no ringing, no colour banding.
How big will the PNG files be?
+
Larger than you might expect, because PNG keeps every pixel exactly rather than approximating. A 1080p still lands around 2-5 MB and a 4K still around 6-15 MB, so a long extraction run adds up quickly. That is the right trade when the images feed further processing, and the wrong one when they are going straight onto a web page. PNG uses DEFLATE compression over filtered scanlines, so every pixel survives exactly, plus a full 8-bit alpha channel.
Is there a file-size limit when converting FLV to PNG?
+
Anonymous uploads are capped at a generous default; signed-in free accounts get a higher cap, and Pro accounts have no per-file limit. Browser memory is usually the practical constraint long before our server-side limits kick in.
Can I batch-convert several FLV files to PNG at once?
+
Yes. Drop or pick multiple FLV files in one upload — the converter processes them in parallel and returns a ZIP of the PNG results. There is no need to repeat the upload step per file.
What happens to my FLV files after the conversion?
+
Uploaded files and PNG outputs are auto-deleted after a short retention window. We do not inspect, share, or train on user files. Direct download links are time-limited and tied to your session.
Where can I open a PNG file?
+
PNG opens natively in every modern browser, every image viewer, and every photo-editing app. No additional software is needed.
Do I need to install software to convert FLV to PNG?
+
No. The converter runs entirely in your browser plus our cloud — no plugin, no install, no admin rights. It works on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, iOS, and Android.
