What does the JFIF to PSD converter do?

JFIF is already lossy-compressed, so converting to PSD does not magically restore detail — it just stores the existing pixels without further loss. PSD is a good choice when you plan to edit the image further and want each save to preserve quality.

Will my PSD have a transparent background?

JFIF files have no alpha channel, so the result will have a solid background. To get transparency in PSD, use the Remove Background tool on the PSD output.

Is the JFIF to PSD conversion reversible?

You can convert the PSD back to JFIF on this site. If either format involved is lossy, the round-trip is not bit-perfect even though it is visually or audibly close.

Will the PSD be larger than the JFIF?

Yes — lossless containers store every byte. Expect the PSD to be 3-8x the size of the JFIF. The benefit is no further quality loss on editing or re-encoding.

Can I get transparency once the image is PSD?

The PSD format supports it, but the conversion cannot invent it. A JFIF has no alpha channel, so every pixel including the background arrives fully opaque. Run /removebackground/ afterwards to cut the subject out — then the alpha channel PSD provides has something to store. PSD keeps every editing decision reversible, which is why it is the master format for design work that will be revised.

Does converting JFIF to PSD restore the quality that was lost?

No. The compression artefacts already baked into the JFIF are ordinary pixel data now, and PSD preserves them perfectly rather than removing them. The file usually gets larger, sometimes several times larger. It is still worth doing before editing, because further edits will not stack a second generation of loss on top. The .jfif extension confuses Windows and many web apps into refusing the file, which is usually the only reason anyone converts it.

Does the PSD keep the EXIF data from my JFIF?

By default yes, wherever the target has somewhere to put it — camera model, exposure settings, lens and GPS coordinates all carry across. GPS is the field worth thinking about: if the image is going to be published, use the strip-metadata option so you are not broadcasting where the photo was taken. JFIF is the JPEG File Interchange Format — the header specification that makes a raw JPEG bitstream into a portable file.

Is there a file-size limit when converting JFIF to PSD?

Anonymous uploads are capped at a generous default; signed-in free accounts get a higher cap, and Pro accounts have no per-file limit. Browser memory is usually the practical constraint long before our server-side limits kick in.
