What happens to transparency when converting PSD to BMP?

BMP does not support transparency. Transparent regions in the PSD will be flattened against a solid background — white by default. If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG, WebP, or TIFF instead.

Is the PSD to BMP conversion reversible?

You can convert the BMP back to PSD on this site. If either format involved is lossy, the round-trip is not bit-perfect even though it is visually or audibly close.

What output quality should I expect from PSD to BMP?

What happens to the layers in my PSD file?

They are flattened, permanently, into one composited image. Blend modes, masks, adjustment layers and editable text are all resolved into final pixels because BMP has no structure to hold them. Keep the PSD as the working master and treat the BMP strictly as an export. PSD keeps every editing decision reversible, which is why it is the master format for design work that will be revised. BMP is gigantic — a 12-megapixel photo is around 36 MB — and no browser treats it as a sane web format.

Will my CMYK colour survive the conversion to BMP?

It is converted to sRGB, because BMP has no CMYK mode. For screen use that is exactly what you want. For commercial print it is not — the gamut shift changes how saturated colours reproduce on press, so send the printer the original PSD rather than the BMP.

Is there a file-size limit when converting PSD to BMP?

Free conversions have a size limit per file, set by the type of file, and the page tells you when a file is over it. A paid plan removes that limit, so much larger files can be converted.
