Is the AVI to PNG conversion reversible?

Will the PNG be larger than the AVI?

Yes — lossless containers store every byte. Expect the PNG to be 3-8x the size of the AVI. The benefit is no further quality loss on editing or re-encoding.
Why do my extracted frames have horizontal lines through them?

Because the source is interlaced. AVI content from the broadcast and DVD era stores two half-height fields per frame, captured a fiftieth of a second apart, and a still pulled straight out shows both woven together as combing on anything that moved. Enable deinterlacing before extraction and each still is built from a single reconstructed progressive frame. AVI is Microsoft’s Audio Video Interleave, introduced in 1992 on top of the RIFF chunk format — one of the oldest containers still in circulation.
Which frame of the AVI do I actually get as a PNG?

The one you point at, not just the first. A timestamp picks a single moment out of the AVI; an interval setting walks the whole video and returns one PNG per step, delivered as a ZIP. The default grabs a frame a few seconds in rather than at 00:00, because the opening frame of a video is very often black.
Does the PNG output support transparency?

The format does, but the source has no alpha to give it — video frames and rendered pages are fully opaque by nature, so every pixel arrives solid. The alpha channel is still useful afterwards: it means you can cut a subject out of the PNG later without changing format again. PNG is the right choice for screenshots, logos, line art and anything with hard edges or transparency — no ringing, no colour banding.
How big will the PNG files be?

Larger than you might expect, because PNG keeps every pixel exactly rather than approximating. A 1080p still lands around 2-5 MB and a 4K still around 6-15 MB, so a long extraction run adds up quickly. That is the right trade when the images feed further processing, and the wrong one when they are going straight onto a web page. PNG uses DEFLATE compression over filtered scanlines, so every pixel survives exactly, plus a full 8-bit alpha channel.
Will a very large AVI file upload successfully?

Free accounts cap at 100 MB per file, and AVI sources run large because the format carries substantial per-chunk overhead on top of the video data. Premium lifts the cap considerably. If the file is split into numbered parts because of the format ceiling, upload them together and they are treated as one job. AVI has no native support for modern codecs, variable frame rate, soft subtitles or files over 4 GB without hacks, and its per-chunk overhead bloats the file.
Is there a file-size limit when converting AVI to PNG?
