What does the DOC to JPG converter do?

Will background and colour fidelity be preserved?

You can convert the JPG back to DOC on this site. If either format involved is lossy, the round-trip is not bit-perfect even though it is visually or audibly close.
What output quality should I expect from DOC to JPG?

Is the older binary Office format still a safe bet?

It opens everywhere, but it is a compatibility choice rather than a good one. The binary formats predate the XML packages, carry macro payloads that many mail servers strip on sight, and are being steadily deprecated by Microsoft itself. Use them when a specific piece of old software demands them, and the XML format otherwise. JPG has no transparency, degrades further every time it is re-saved, and produces visible blocking on flat colour and sharp text.
Will the JPG open directly in a browser?

Yes, and the DOC would not have. Browsers ship a decoder for JPG and none for DOC, so a DOC link forces a download while a JPG renders inline. That is usually the deciding factor when the file is going onto a web page rather than into an application. JPG compresses natural photographs superbly and is readable by literally every device, browser and printer in existence.
Can I convert only part of the DOC instead of all of it?

No. There is no page setting for DOC files, so every page is rendered as its own JPG and you keep the ones you need. If you only want the first page, convert the DOC to PDF and then use the PDF to JPG converter, whose Pages menu offers First page only.
Do I get one image per page?

Yes. Each page renders as its own JPG file, numbered in page order, so a one-page document gives a single JPG and a longer one gives one image per page.
Is there a file-size limit when converting DOC to JPG?
