GIF to JPEG Conversion FAQ
What does the GIF to JPEG converter do?
+
GIF is a lossless image format; JPEG uses lossy compression. The converter re-encodes pixel data into JPEG, trading some fine detail for a smaller file. For photographs this is usually invisible; for sharp graphics it can introduce halos around edges.
What happens to transparency when converting GIF to JPEG?
+
JPEG does not support transparency. Transparent regions in the GIF will be flattened against a solid background — white by default. If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG, WebP, or TIFF instead.
How much smaller will the JPEG be than my GIF?
+
Typically 5-10x smaller for images, 5-15x smaller for audio. Exact ratio depends on the chosen quality level and the content — flat solid-colour images and silent audio compress far more than detailed photos or busy soundtracks.
My GIF is animated — what happens to the other frames?
+
Only the first frame survives, because JPEG is a still format with nowhere to store the rest. If the animation matters, target a format that animates, or convert to a video container instead and keep the motion. JPEG shares every JPG limitation — no alpha, generational loss on re-save — with the added nuisance of software that treats the two extensions differently.
Is there a file-size limit when converting GIF to JPEG?
+
Free conversions have a size limit per file, set by the type of file, and the page tells you when a file is over it. A paid plan removes that limit, so much larger files can be converted.
Can I batch-convert several GIF files to JPEG at once?
+
Several files in one job need a paid plan. Free use is one file per conversion, one conversion an hour. On a paid plan you can add several files to one job, then download each result on its own or all of them in one ZIP.
What happens to my GIF files after the conversion?
+
Uploaded files are processed on our own conversion servers, nobody looks at them, and they are not shared. The upload and the converted file are both deleted automatically about 24 hours after the conversion, which leaves time to download the result. See /privacy/ for the full policy.
Where can I open a JPEG file?
+
JPEG opens natively in every modern browser, every image viewer, and every photo-editing app. No additional software is needed.
Do I need to install software to convert GIF to JPEG?
+
No. The converter runs entirely in your browser plus our cloud — no plugin, no install, no admin rights. It works on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, iOS, and Android.
Do I need an account to convert GIF to JPEG?
+
Yes. One conversion an hour is free, with no account needed, for a file within the free size limit. A paid plan removes the hourly limit and the size limit, and lets you add several files to one job.
Is there an API for GIF to JPEG conversion?
+
Yes. Every conversion this site offers is also exposed via a JSON API — see /api/ for endpoints, authentication, and rate limits. GIF to JPEG is one of the supported pairs.
What if my GIF fails to convert to JPEG?
+
Failures are usually caused by corrupted source files or unsupported GIF variants. Re-export from the original app and try again; if it still fails, the contact page forwards the file to support so we can diagnose.
