What does the JPEG to PSD converter do?

JPEG is already lossy-compressed, so converting to PSD does not magically restore detail — it just stores the existing pixels without further loss. PSD is a good choice when you plan to edit the image further and want each save to preserve quality.

Will my PSD have a transparent background?

JPEG files have no alpha channel, so the result will have a solid background. To get transparency in PSD, use the Remove Background tool on the PSD output.

Is the JPEG to PSD conversion reversible?

You can convert the PSD back to JPEG on this site. If either format involved is lossy, the round-trip is not bit-perfect even though it is visually or audibly close.

Can I get transparency once the image is PSD?

The PSD format supports it, but the conversion cannot invent it. A JPEG has no alpha channel, so every pixel including the background arrives fully opaque. Run /removebackground/ afterwards to cut the subject out — then the alpha channel PSD provides has something to store. PSD keeps every editing decision reversible, which is why it is the master format for design work that will be revised.

Does converting JPEG to PSD restore the quality that was lost?

No. The compression artefacts already baked into the JPEG are ordinary pixel data now, and PSD preserves them perfectly rather than removing them. The file usually gets larger, sometimes several times larger. It is still worth doing before editing, because further edits will not stack a second generation of loss on top. JPEG shares every JPG limitation — no alpha, generational loss on re-save — with the added nuisance of software that treats the two extensions differently.

Is there a file-size limit when converting JPEG to PSD?

Free conversions have a size limit per file, set by the type of file, and the page tells you when a file is over it. A paid plan removes that limit, so much larger files can be converted.

Can I batch-convert several JPEG files to PSD at once?
