No, and that is one of the better reasons to move. The VOB container has a practical single-file ceiling that long or high-bitrate recordings run straight into, which is exactly why old captures arrive as part1, part2, part3. WMV has no equivalent limit, so the pieces can be rejoined into one continuous file. VOB is split across files, may be CSS-encrypted, and carries navigation packets that confuse general-purpose players.
What happens to the subtitle tracks in my VOB file?

They cannot stay selectable, because WMV has no soft-subtitle stream to hold them. There are two ways out: burn them into the video during conversion, which makes them permanent and unstyleable, or export them as a separate .srt alongside the WMV for the player to load. The converter tells you which it did rather than dropping them silently. WMV is effectively a dead end: macOS, iOS, Android and every browser need third-party decoders, and some WMV files carry DRM that cannot be converted at all.
My VOB has several audio tracks — do they all survive into the WMV?

Not dependably. VOB stores multiple audio streams as first-class tracks, but WMV playback support past the first track is inconsistent, so most players will only ever expose one. Choose the track you actually want before converting; the others are better extracted to their own files than left in a container that hides them. VOB preserves the whole DVD payload — multiple angles, multiple audio languages and subtitle tracks all survive inside it.
What should I watch for converting a VOB from a disc or a broadcast recording?

Interlacing and aspect ratio, in that order. Material made for television is interlaced almost without exception, so deinterlacing has to be on or every moving edge arrives combed; and a great deal of it is stored as non-square pixels with a flag saying how wide to display it, which a converter that ignores the flag turns into a stretched or squashed WMV. Check the first few seconds of the output before running a batch — both faults are obvious immediately and invisible in the settings. VOB is the Video Object container found in the VIDEO_TS folder of every DVD — an MPEG-2 program stream with DVD-specific navigation data added.
Why does my VOB file fail to convert to WMV?

Almost always DRM. Some VOB files are encrypted at the bitstream level by the store or software that issued them, and an encrypted stream cannot be decoded by us or by anything else without the licence key. Files you recorded, exported or downloaded unprotected convert normally; a licensed purchase will not, and no converter can honestly promise otherwise.
Will the WMV still play smoothly on a phone or a TV?

It may not. VOB is decoded by dedicated silicon on phones, tablets and TVs, which is why it plays without flattening the battery. WMV typically falls back to software decoding on the same hardware — higher CPU load, a warmer device, and dropped frames on 4K material. For a device target, VOB is the safer container to stay in.
Is there a file-size limit when converting VOB to WMV?
