What does the WEBP to TIFF converter do?

WEBP is already lossy-compressed, so converting to TIFF does not magically restore detail — it just stores the existing pixels without further loss. TIFF is a good choice when you plan to edit the image further and want each save to preserve quality.
Will transparency in my WEBP be preserved in the TIFF?

Yes. Both WEBP and TIFF support an alpha channel, so transparent and semi-transparent regions carry through unchanged.
My WEBP is animated — what happens in the TIFF?

TIFF is a single-frame format. The converter takes the first frame of the animation by default. To export every frame, convert to TIFF after first splitting the WEBP with the Split tool.
Will the TIFF be larger than the WEBP?

Yes — lossless containers store every byte. Expect the TIFF to be 3-8x the size of the WEBP. The benefit is no further quality loss on editing or re-encoding.
Does converting WEBP to TIFF restore the quality that was lost?

No. The compression artefacts already baked into the WEBP are ordinary pixel data now, and TIFF preserves them perfectly rather than removing them. The file usually gets larger, sometimes several times larger. It is still worth doing before editing, because further edits will not stack a second generation of loss on top. TIFF handles CMYK, 16-bit depth, embedded ICC profiles and multi-page documents, which is exactly what print and archival workflows require. WebP is still second-class outside the browser — print workflows, older Office builds and some phone galleries do not accept it.
Does the TIFF keep the EXIF data from my WEBP?

By default yes, wherever the target has somewhere to put it — camera model, exposure settings, lens and GPS coordinates all carry across. GPS is the field worth thinking about: if the image is going to be published, use the strip-metadata option so you are not broadcasting where the photo was taken. WebP is Google’s 2010 image format, built from the VP8 keyframe encoder and intended to replace JPG, PNG and GIF at once.
My WEBP is animated — what happens to the other frames?

Only the first frame survives, because TIFF is a still format with nowhere to store the rest. If the animation matters, target a format that animates, or convert to a video container instead and keep the motion. TIFF’s flexibility is its weakness — two TIFFs can be structured so differently that software reading one fails on the other — and files are large.
Is there a file-size limit when converting WEBP to TIFF?

Anonymous uploads are capped at a generous default; signed-in free accounts get a higher cap, and Pro accounts have no per-file limit. Browser memory is usually the practical constraint long before our server-side limits kick in.
