Will background and colour fidelity be preserved?

Neither PDF nor BMP carries an alpha channel, so the background renders as a solid colour and pixel colour data is preserved end-to-end.
Is the PDF to BMP conversion reversible?

You can convert the BMP back to PDF on this site. If either format involved is lossy, the round-trip is not bit-perfect even though it is visually or audibly close.
What output quality should I expect from PDF to BMP?

How big will the BMP files be?

Larger than you might expect, because BMP keeps every pixel exactly rather than approximating. A 1080p still lands around 2-5 MB and a 4K still around 6-15 MB, so a long extraction run adds up quickly. That is the right trade when the images feed further processing, and the wrong one when they are going straight onto a web page. BMP usually stores completely uncompressed pixel rows with a small header, which is why it is so simple to parse.
Can I convert only part of the PDF instead of all of it?

Yes — the page-range option takes `1-5`, `1,3,5` or `all`, so a single chapter, an appendix or just the cover can be extracted without processing the rest. On a long document that is the difference between a handful of files and several hundred.
Is the PDF side of this conversion searchable?

It depends entirely on whether real text is present. A PDF generated from a document carries an actual text layer and is searchable; a PDF built from scans or images is a picture of text and is not, until OCR adds a layer. /pdf-ocr/ does that, and it is worth running before any conversion that expects to read the words.
Do I get one image per page?
