What does the PSD to GIF converter do?

It takes a PSD image and re-encodes the pixel data as GIF. Colour and resolution are preserved; the difference is the container and compression scheme.

Will transparency in my PSD be preserved in the GIF?

Yes. Both PSD and GIF support an alpha channel, so transparent and semi-transparent regions carry through unchanged.

Can I animate the result of converting PSD to GIF?

PSD is a single still, so the GIF output will also be a single frame. Use a multi-image upload plus the Merge tool to build an animated GIF from several stills.

What output quality should I expect from PSD to GIF?

Default settings target broadcast / web quality — visually identical to the source for most viewers. For archival use, pick the highest quality option in the converter settings.

What happens to the layers in my PSD file?

They are flattened, permanently, into one composited image. Blend modes, masks, adjustment layers and editable text are all resolved into final pixels because GIF has no structure to hold them. Keep the PSD as the working master and treat the GIF strictly as an export. PSD keeps every editing decision reversible, which is why it is the master format for design work that will be revised. GIF’s 256-colour ceiling wrecks gradients and video stills, and its file sizes for animation are an order of magnitude worse than WebP or MP4.

Will my CMYK colour survive the conversion to GIF?

It is converted to sRGB, because GIF has no CMYK mode. For screen use that is exactly what you want. For commercial print it is not — the gamut shift changes how saturated colours reproduce on press, so send the printer the original PSD rather than the GIF.

Is anything lost converting between PSD and GIF?

No pixel data, no. Both formats store the image without lossy compression, so the picture that comes out is identical to the one that went in and the conversion can be repeated indefinitely. What changes is file size, and which features travel — colour depth, embedded profiles, layers and animation are all supported unevenly between lossless formats. A PSD preserves layers, masks, blend modes, smart objects, adjustment layers and editable text as separate live elements. GIF is lossless but capped at a 256-colour palette per frame, using LZW compression and single-colour binary transparency.

Is there a file-size limit when converting PSD to GIF?

Anonymous uploads are capped at a generous default; signed-in free accounts get a higher cap, and Pro accounts have no per-file limit. Browser memory is usually the practical constraint long before our server-side limits kick in.
