PSD to PNG Conversion FAQ

What does the PSD to PNG converter do?
+
It takes a PSD image and re-encodes the pixel data as PNG. Colour and resolution are preserved; the difference is the container and compression scheme.
Yes. Both PSD and PNG support an alpha channel, so transparent and semi-transparent regions carry through unchanged.
You can convert the PNG back to PSD on this site. If either format involved is lossy, the round-trip is not bit-perfect even though it is visually or audibly close.
Default settings target broadcast / web quality — visually identical to the source for most viewers. For archival use, pick the highest quality option in the converter settings.
They are flattened, permanently, into one composited image. Blend modes, masks, adjustment layers and editable text are all resolved into final pixels because PNG has no structure to hold them. Keep the PSD as the working master and treat the PNG strictly as an export. PSD keeps every editing decision reversible, which is why it is the master format for design work that will be revised. PNG is a poor photograph format: a photo saved as PNG is routinely five to ten times larger than the same image as JPG or WebP.
It is converted to sRGB, because PNG has no CMYK mode. For screen use that is exactly what you want. For commercial print it is not — the gamut shift changes how saturated colours reproduce on press, so send the printer the original PSD rather than the PNG.
No pixel data, no. Both formats store the image without lossy compression, so the picture that comes out is identical to the one that went in and the conversion can be repeated indefinitely. What changes is file size, and which features travel — colour depth, embedded profiles, layers and animation are all supported unevenly between lossless formats. A PSD preserves layers, masks, blend modes, smart objects, adjustment layers and editable text as separate live elements. PNG uses DEFLATE compression over filtered scanlines, so every pixel survives exactly, plus a full 8-bit alpha channel.
Anonymous uploads are capped at a generous default; signed-in free accounts get a higher cap, and Pro accounts have no per-file limit. Browser memory is usually the practical constraint long before our server-side limits kick in.
Yes. Drop or pick multiple PSD files in one upload — the converter processes them in parallel and returns a ZIP of the PNG results. There is no need to repeat the upload step per file.
Uploaded files and PNG outputs are auto-deleted after a short retention window. We do not inspect, share, or train on user files. Direct download links are time-limited and tied to your session.
PNG opens natively in every modern browser, every image viewer, and every photo-editing app. No additional software is needed.
No. The converter runs entirely in your browser plus our cloud — no plugin, no install, no admin rights. It works on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, iOS, and Android.

PSD

PSD (Photoshop Document) is the native file format for Adobe Photoshop. PSD files store layered images, allowing for non-destructive editing and upholding design elements. They are crucial for pixel-perfect graphic design and photo manipulation.

PNG

PNG files cover transparency and use lossless compression, making them ideal for graphics, logos, and screenshots.
