What does the TIFF to BMP converter do?

It takes a TIFF image and re-encodes the pixel data as BMP. Colour and resolution are preserved; the difference is the container and compression scheme.
BMP does not support transparency. Transparent regions in the TIFF will be flattened against a solid background — white by default. If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG, WebP, or TIFF instead.
You can convert the BMP back to TIFF on this site. If either format involved is lossy, the round-trip is not bit-perfect even though it is visually or audibly close.
Default settings target broadcast / web quality — visually identical to the source for most viewers. For archival use, pick the highest quality option in the converter settings.
They are flattened, permanently, into one composited image. Blend modes, masks, adjustment layers and editable text are all resolved into final pixels because BMP has no structure to hold them. Keep the TIFF as the working master and treat the BMP strictly as an export. TIFF handles CMYK, 16-bit depth, embedded ICC profiles and multi-page documents, which is exactly what print and archival workflows require. BMP is gigantic — a 12-megapixel photo is around 36 MB — and no browser treats it as a sane web format.
No — BMP has no alpha channel, so transparent regions are composited against a background colour, white unless you change it. That is the single most common surprise in this conversion: a logo that looked clean on a dark page arrives with a white box around it. Set the matte colour to match wherever the image will sit, or choose a target that keeps alpha.
It is converted to sRGB, because BMP has no CMYK mode. For screen use that is exactly what you want. For commercial print it is not — the gamut shift changes how saturated colours reproduce on press, so send the printer the original TIFF rather than the BMP.
By default yes, wherever the target has somewhere to put it — camera model, exposure settings, lens and GPS coordinates all carry across. GPS is the field worth thinking about: if the image is going to be published, use the strip-metadata option so you are not broadcasting where the photo was taken. TIFF is the Tagged Image File Format from 1986, and it is the format scanning, publishing and archiving industries standardised on.
No pixel data, no. Both formats store the image without lossy compression, so the picture that comes out is identical to the one that went in and the conversion can be repeated indefinitely. What changes is file size, and which features travel — colour depth, embedded profiles, layers and animation are all supported unevenly between lossless formats. TIFF is a container more than a codec: it can hold uncompressed, LZW, ZIP or even JPEG data, at up to 32 bits per channel, with multiple pages in one file. BMP usually stores completely uncompressed pixel rows with a small header, which is why it is so simple to parse.
