What does the WEBP to PSD converter do?

WEBP is already lossy-compressed, so converting to PSD does not magically restore detail — it just stores the existing pixels without further loss. PSD is a good choice when you plan to edit the image further and want each save to preserve quality.

Will transparency in my WEBP be preserved in the PSD?

Yes. Both WEBP and PSD support an alpha channel, so transparent and semi-transparent regions carry through unchanged.

My WEBP is animated — what happens in the PSD?

PSD is a single-frame format. The converter takes the first frame of the animation by default. To export every frame, convert to PSD after first splitting the WEBP with the Split tool.

Will the PSD be larger than the WEBP?

Yes — lossless containers store every byte. Expect the PSD to be 3-8x the size of the WEBP. The benefit is no further quality loss on editing or re-encoding.

Does converting WEBP to PSD restore the quality that was lost?

No. The compression artefacts already baked into the WEBP are ordinary pixel data now, and PSD preserves them perfectly rather than removing them. The file usually gets larger, sometimes several times larger. It is still worth doing before editing, because further edits will not stack a second generation of loss on top. PSD keeps every editing decision reversible, which is why it is the master format for design work that will be revised. WebP is still second-class outside the browser — print workflows, older Office builds and some phone galleries do not accept it.

Does the PSD keep the EXIF data from my WEBP?

By default yes, wherever the target has somewhere to put it — camera model, exposure settings, lens and GPS coordinates all carry across. GPS is the field worth thinking about: if the image is going to be published, use the strip-metadata option so you are not broadcasting where the photo was taken. WebP is Google’s 2010 image format, built from the VP8 keyframe encoder and intended to replace JPG, PNG and GIF at once.

My WEBP is animated — what happens to the other frames?

Only the first frame survives, because PSD is a still format with nowhere to store the rest. If the animation matters, target a format that animates, or convert to a video container instead and keep the motion. PSD is huge, opens properly in almost nothing outside Adobe, and has to be flattened before anyone can view or print it.

Is there a file-size limit when converting WEBP to PSD?

Anonymous uploads are capped at a generous default; signed-in free accounts get a higher cap, and Pro accounts have no per-file limit. Browser memory is usually the practical constraint long before our server-side limits kick in.
